The Blues Scale

The Blues Scale, as you probably know is commonly used in Rock, but also in loads of other types of music.

If you know the Pentatonic Scale , it will be dead easy for you to learn this one.

To achieve the 'blues sound', we simply add one new note to the Pentatonic.

For those of you who know your Intervals, the new note is a diminished 5th above the minor root.

Click Here for an explanation of root notes.

It can be used in the major or minor mode, but if you are a beginner, I recommend that you learn it only in the minor mode until you have it firmly in your head and fingers.

I have only shown the minor roots in the diagram so that you can get a feel for the sound of it.
